The area is mostly master-planned: separate subdivisions, each with its own HOA, spread around the Julington-Durbin Preserve.

Why a new house still needs a rekey

Many homes here are new or only a few years old, so people are surprised when we suggest a rekey. Here's why we do:

  • Construction keys. While a house is being built, many people use a shared key: framers, painters, inspectors and the sales team. Some builder locks cancel that key once you use your own key for the first time. Not all of them do, and you can't tell by looking.
  • Resale homes. A home that's a few years old may have keys with the last owner, their cleaners, their pet sitter and the listing agent's lockbox.
  • Mismatched keys. Builders often put a different key on the garage entry door than on the front door. We can key every lock in the house to one key.

A lock rekey changes the pins inside the cylinder, so old keys stop working and you keep your existing hardware and finish. It's usually the most affordable way to take control of a new house. If a lock is loose or builder-grade and you'd like something sturdier, we can install a new deadbolt or handleset instead.

Smart locks in newer homes

Newer homes here often have a keypad deadbolt already, or owners want one right after closing. A keypad is handy for kids coming home from Bartram Trail High or Creekside, for dog walkers and for guests. It also means fewer lockouts. We install and set up smart locks and keypad deadbolts, check that the bolt goes fully into the strike, and show you how to add and delete codes.

One tip: set up a backup. Most smart locks still take a key, and a lot of our lockout calls here come from dead batteries or a phone left inside.

Lockouts from the garage and the pool

The typical lockout here is a household that goes in and out through the garage and never carries a house key. The power goes out, or the garage remote stays in the car, and the house is shut. We pick the entry lock rather than drilling it whenever possible. See our house lockout service for what to expect.

Cars get locked with keys inside, too, at the Pavilion at Durbin Park, at ballfields and in driveways. We open those with Lishi picks instead of a slim jim, so nothing gets bent or scratched. See car lockouts.

Just moved in? Have this ready

New owners often don't have ID that shows their new address yet. That's fine. Before we rekey or open a door, we just need to see that you live there. Any of these works:

  • your closing statement or settlement papers;
  • a utility bill or welcome letter from the HOA;
  • a lease, if you're renting;
  • your driver's license plus the documents above, if the license still shows your old address.

Keeping one of these on your phone saves time if you ever get locked out before you've updated your license.

Getting to you

From our base we use Old St. Augustine Road, Bartram Park Boulevard, Race Track Road, St. Johns Parkway and Veterans Parkway to reach most homes. We know which subdivisions sit behind which gate, and we'll ask for your gate code or guest-list entry up front.

What affects the cost

The price depends on the job, how many locks we rekey or install, and whether you supply the hardware. We tell you the total before we drive over, and our pricing page explains what goes into it. We use non-destructive entry first and only drill a lock as a last resort, with your OK.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to rekey a brand-new home in Bartram Park or Durbin Crossing?

Usually, yes. During construction, trades, inspectors and sales staff often use a shared key. Some builder locks cut that key out when you first use your own key, and some don't. A rekey costs little per lock and guarantees that only the keys you hold will open your doors.

Does my HOA allow a smart lock or keypad on my front door?

Most HOAs in the area allow them, but check your rules first. Some communities regulate what shows on the front of the house, such as hardware finish or style. We can match the finish of your existing handleset, and most keypad deadbolts fit the same holes, so the door looks nearly the same from the street.

How do you get into a gated community like St. Johns Golf & Country Club?

We check in at the gate like any visitor. Add Jax Locksmith Solutions to your guest list through your community's app or call the gatehouse, and give us any gate code when you call. That keeps us from waiting at the gate while you wait at the door.

Is it a problem that part of my neighborhood is in St. Johns County?

No. We work on both sides of the Duval and St. Johns county line, and the price doesn't change when you cross it. Bartram Park straddles the line, and Julington Creek, Durbin Crossing and RiverTown are in St. Johns County. We serve all of them the same way.
