Need Old Keys to Stop Working in Jacksonville? Same-Day Lock Rekeying
Taking calls until 9 PM
Most of Jacksonville in 20–45 minutes
What rekeying does
Every pin-tumbler lock has a set of small pins inside its cylinder. Your key lifts those pins to exactly the right heights, and the lock turns. When we rekey, we take the cylinder apart, replace the pins with a new set that matches a new key, and put it back together.
The result:
- Old keys stop working. Every copy, wherever it is.
- Your lock stays on the door. Same finish, same handle, no new holes.
- You get new keys on the spot, cut and tested in each lock before we leave.
It's the lowest-cost way to take back control of who can get into your home or business.
When to rekey
- You just bought a home. It's one of the most common calls we get. Previous owners, their relatives, builders, real estate agents, cleaners and pet sitters may all have keys. Many new homeowners call us the afternoon they close, and we try hard to get there the same day.
- You lost your keys, or they were stolen along with something that shows your address.
- A roommate, tenant or ex moved out and you're not sure every copy came back.
- Contractors or cleaners had keys during a remodel or while you were away.
- An employee left a business with a key.
- You're tired of a ring full of keys. Rekeying can put the front door, back door, garage entry and deadbolts on one key.
Rekey or replace?
| Your situation | Our advice |
|---|---|
| Locks work smoothly, you need old keys dead | Rekey |
| You want one key for every door | Rekey, if the locks share a keyway |
| Locks are loose, sticky, rusted or damaged | Replace |
| Builder-grade locks on a door you worry about | Replace with a stronger deadbolt |
| You want keyless entry | Replace with a keypad or smart lock |
| Lock was forced in a break-in | Replace and check the door frame |
If replacing makes more sense, see lock change and replacement. We'll never talk you into new hardware you don't need.
One key for the whole house
Most homes collect a mix of locks over the years. Kwikset and Schlage use different key shapes, called keyways, so one key can't open both brands. When your locks share a keyway, we key them all alike. When they don't, we swap the odd cylinder or two for matching ones. That usually costs far less than replacing the whole lock.
Keys to your home are only as secure as their copies. If you want to control who can copy your key, ask about restricted keyways on our high-security locks page.
How a rekey visit works
- Call or text. Tell us how many doors and what brand of locks you have, if you know. We give you a price on the phone.
- We arrive and check each lock. If one is worn out, rusted or damaged, we tell you before we start.
- We rekey each cylinder. Each one takes a few minutes. We clean and lubricate as we go, which matters in Jacksonville's humidity.
- We cut and test new keys in every lock, including the deadbolts and the garage entry door that people often forget.
- You pay only the price we agreed on, and you get an itemized invoice.
You get an itemized invoice that matches your quote, with no surprise fees.
Florida locks and rekeying
Humidity and salt air are hard on lock cylinders. Near the ocean, a cylinder can corrode inside so badly that new pins won't fix it. In that case, a new cylinder or a lock with a better finish is the right call, and our page on high-security locks explains which finishes hold up in Jacksonville Beach. Inland, most locks rekey cleanly even after many years.
Rekeying for landlords and businesses
Rekeying between tenants is the quickest way to turn a rental over safely. For landlords with several units, we can set up a simple system where each tenant's key opens only their unit and your key opens them all. See our page for property managers and realtors.
Businesses rekey when staff leave, when keys go missing, or when they move into a space that other tenants used before. For offices where different people need different access, a master key system is the next step up. More on our commercial locksmith page.
What it costs
Rekeying is priced per lock cylinder, plus a trip charge. The total depends on:
- How many cylinders. A knob and a deadbolt on the same door count as two.
- Keying alike. Setting every lock to one key adds no work if they share a keyway.
- The lock type. Standard locks are quickest. High-security, mortise and some smart lock cylinders take longer.
- Extra keys. Two keys come standard; more are cut for a small charge each.
You get the full price on the phone before we drive out, and we confirm it before any work starts. Our pricing guide explains typical costs.

How we work
No surprises. No scare tactics.
Locksmith scams follow a pattern. Here is how we do the opposite, on every job.
-
Upfront price on the phone
Tell us what's going on and we quote the total before we drive out. If something on site changes the job, we explain why and you approve the new price before we start.
-
ID check before we open
Before we open a door, we check your ID and something that ties you to the address or vehicle, like a lease, bill or registration. It protects you as much as it protects us.
-
Courtesy call and marked arrival
We call when we're on the way and arrive in a vehicle marked with our name. The person you talked to on the phone is the business that shows up, not a subcontractor.
-
Non-destructive entry first
Most lockouts open by picking or bypass tools, with no damage. We only drill as a last resort, and only after you agree to it and the cost.
-
Itemized invoice
When the work is done you get an itemized invoice with our business name on it. It matches the price you agreed to, with no surprise fees added at the door.
-
Local and owner-operated
When you call, you reach a local business based in the 32258 area, not a national call center that sells your job to whoever is closest.

Frequently asked questions
What does it mean to rekey a lock?
Rekeying means changing the small pins inside a lock's cylinder so it works with a new key. The lock stays on your door and looks the same, but every old key stops working. It's the quickest and lowest-cost way to take back control of who can get in.
Should I rekey after buying a house?
Yes. You have no way of knowing how many keys the previous owners, their family, contractors, agents or dog walkers still have. Rekeying every exterior lock, including the garage entry door, fixes that for a small cost. We often do it the same day you close.
Can you make all my locks work with one key?
Usually, yes. If your locks share the same keyway, which most same-brand locks do, we rekey them to one key. If you have a mix, such as Kwikset on the front and Schlage on the back, we can swap one brand's cylinders so they match. We check your locks on the phone or at the door.
How long does rekeying take?
A few minutes per lock. A typical house with a front knob and deadbolt, a back door and a garage entry door takes about 30 to 60 minutes, including cutting and testing the new keys. Worn or corroded locks take longer, and we tell you if one should be replaced instead.
Is it better to rekey or replace my locks?
Rekey when your locks work smoothly and you just need old keys to stop working. Replace them when they're loose, sticky, rusted, damaged or low-grade, or when you want a stronger deadbolt or a smart lock. Rekeying usually costs a fraction of new hardware.
Can I rekey the locks on a home I rent?
Only with your landlord's approval, which most Florida leases require. Many landlords agree if they get a copy of the new key. We're happy to talk to your landlord or property manager, and we rekey rental turnovers for landlords all the time.
