Southside at a glance

Southside is the big middle of Jacksonville, east of the river, running out toward the Intracoastal. It grew fast after the late 1960s. Today it's a mix of garden apartments, gated communities, office parks and a lot of Jacksonville's shopping. Baymeadows started as a golf community in 1968. Southpoint, a 250-acre office park, got its start in 1980. The St. Johns Town Center now anchors the corridor along J. Turner Butler Boulevard.

That mix shapes the calls we get here. More than anywhere else we work, Southside jobs start in a parking lot or a leasing office.

Apartments and rentals

Many Southside residents rent, so we answer the same questions again and again:

• Locked out? Try the leasing office or its emergency line first. If nobody answers, we can open your door. We'll check ID that matches the address, because we don't open doors for people who can't show they live there.
• Moving in? Your lease decides who can change the locks. Some complexes rekey between tenants and some don't. If your landlord allows it, a lock rekey is a quick way to make sure the last tenant's key no longer works.
• Townhome or condo owner? You control your own locks. We can rekey them, change them or add a keypad deadbolt.

Don't force the door

When you're locked out of an apartment, it's tempting to pop a window screen or push on the sliding door. On most Southside complexes, that damage comes out of your security deposit, and it can cost more than a lockout call. A bent sliding-door track or a cracked frame also leaves the unit less secure afterward. We open apartment doors by picking the lock, and we don't need to touch the windows.

Offices along JTB, Deerwood and Southpoint

Offices near Gate Parkway, in Deerwood Park and in Southpoint call us for a few recurring reasons: a manager is locked out before opening, an employee leaves without returning a key, or a storefront lock starts sticking. Town Center car lockouts

Southside is where a lot of car lockouts happen. Keys get locked in cars at the Town Center, at Tinseltown and at the restaurants along Baymeadows Road, or shut in the trunk at the gym. How we reach the Southside

Our base is a few minutes south on I-95. We take I-95, Philips Highway or the I-295 East Beltway, then JTB, Baymeadows Road or Southside Boulevard to reach you. Most Southside addresses are 15 to 35 minutes away. JTB at rush hour and game-day traffic can slow us down, and we'll tell you if they will.
